Washington State advances to NCAA Second Round

Cougars best Marquette, 3-1
MADISON, Wis.-- The Washington State volleyball team will advance to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Volleyball tournament following a 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20 victory over Marquette on Thursday night in the UW Field House.
The Cougars connected on a .331 attack percentage (66 kills - 18 errors - 145 total attempts) while holding Marquette to a .241 clip (54-21-137). Washington State out blocked the Golden Eagles 8-4.
WSU's Kyra Holt led all players with 22 kills, adding three service aces and eight digs. Hailey Bethune and McKenna Woodford joined Holt in double-figure kills, adding 15 and 11 kills, respectively, for the Cougars.
Taylor Mims and Casey Schoenlein each stuffed a match-high six blocks for the Cougars.
Alexis Dirige saved 19 digs for Washington State, followed by Holt and Nicole Rignoi with eight apiece. Rignoi dished out 31 assists for the Cougars while Haley MacDonald put up 27 assists.
Taylor Louis paced Marquette with 18 kills, adding 11 digs, while Allie Barber finished 12 with kills and Jenna Rosenthal added 11.
Sara Blaiser put up 40 assists for the Golden Eagles, adding an ace and four digs.
Marquette's Lauren Houg saved 23 digs to lead the match. Blaiser and Meghan Niemann each recorded three blocks.
The Cougars return to the court on Friday to play the winner of the first-round match between Wisconsin and Howard.
