NEW YORK CITY - For the third-straight year, the Wisconsin track and field teams head to the Big Apple for the Armory Track Invitational where the Badgers will square off against over 100 teams. Action starts on Friday at 11 a.m. (CT) and begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. Ā
The Badgers come off strong performances at the Jack Jennett Invitational.
Zach Ziemek, this week's Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, won the heptathlon as the Badgers finished in the top-four in the event. On the women's side, junior Georgia Ellenwood had a scintillating performance in the pentathlon where she set a personal best of 4,295 points and fell four points shy of the school record.
The Badgers will face some of the nation's finest on the track of the legendary Armory facility.
The No. 9 ranked Badger women will test the track against No. 15 Miami (Fla.) and No. 17 Duke. On the men's side, the Badger men square up against No. 19 Syracuse.
For the UW men,
Lorenzo Larry tests his speed in the 60 meters where he will compete against some of the country's finest sprinters which will start at noon on Friday. In addition Larry is set to run in the 200 meters with teammates
Ryan Davis,
Corbin Ellis and
Alex Teague as the prelims for the 200 take place Saturday morning at 10:25.
Davis and Ellis are set to run in the invitational section of the 500 meters on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
Ebony McClendon will compete in the women's 60 meters as preliminary action begins at 11:25 on Friday. The sophomore will also compete in the 200 meters, which begin on Saturday at 9: 15 a.m.
The men's 3000 meter is headlined by a trio of UW runners --
Carl Hirsch,
Joe Hardy, and
Russell Sandvold ā as the trip hold the three top seeds in the top section that races at 1:35 p.m. on Friday.
In the women's 3000 meters where Gabi Anzalone looks to repeat her success from the Badgers' dual at Minnesota, where she won the event crown. Anzalone will race with teammates Michele Lee and Amy Davis in the second section of the event on Friday at 1:20 p.m.
Anzalone also holds a top seed for the 5000 meters, which is scheduled to run on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
The final event of the first day is the distance-medley relay, as the UW women race at 6:30 p.m. with the men taking the track at 6:59 p.m.
Kicking off Saturday morning will be
Morgan McDonald,
Joe Hardy and
Carl Hirsch at 9 a.m. in the mile. Shortly after,
Austin Mudd will try his luck in the 800 meters which will take place at 11:05 a.m.
In addition, many of the running finals will take place on Saturday.
UW freshman
Jared Lovelace will make his UW debut in the men's triple jump on Saturday morning, while Emma Haugen will compete in the women's high jump.
Banke Oginni and Kennedy Blahnik will both compete in the women's shot put and weight throw, while
Riley Budde and
Josh McDonald will throw the shot put and weight on the men's side.
