LINCOLN, Neb. – After an exciting win on Friday night over Iowa, the Wisconsin women's tennis team couldn't keep the momentum going as it fell at Nebraska, 4-3, Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers (4-11, 1-5) got out to a slow start on the doubles courts as Nebraska (17-2, 4-1) won two out of the three matches to win the doubles point. The sole doubles victory for Wisconsin came from the new duo of
Kelsey Grambeau and
Kendall Kirsch who took down Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox-Herr, 7-5, to pick up their second-straight victory together.
Following the doubles matches, the Badgers turned to the singles courts to try and pick up lost ground but unfortunately the Cornhuskers were too much to handle.
Maggy Lehmicke handed
Lauren Chypyha her third loss of the spring by knocking her off, 6-1, 6-2. Vasanti Shinde and Katerina Matysova also picked up victories for the Cornhuskers by beating Kirsch and
Lauren Burich, 6-0, 6-3, and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
Ekaterina Stepanova picked up her eighth victory of the spring for the Badgers by topping Mary Hanna by a score of 6-1, 6-3. In addition,
Maria Avgerinos and Grambeau picked up victories for the Badgers by knocking off Lisa Anderson and Mackenna Maddox-Herr by retirement. Avgerinos was leading 6-3, 5-2, while Grambeau trailed 6-7, 1-1.
The Badgers will be back in action on Saturday, April 2, as they host Michigan at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT).
