Wisconsin junior one of 26 players called into training camp
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's soccer junior Rose Lavelle has been named to the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team roster that will come together in Charlottesville, Virginia, for a training camp running from May 1-7.
With the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season started, the latest U-23 roster consists entirely of collegiate players. Lavelle is one of nine players that has represented the USA at an age group FIFA Women's World Cup.
Among the 26 players called up by head coach Janet Rayfield, Lavelle is one of only two players – along with goalkeeper Jane Campbell – that has previous experience training with the full U.S. Women's National Team.
Lavelle trained with the full U.S. Women's National Team in January prior to a friendly against Ireland. The midfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio, was also one of 24 players on the USWNT roster for the Women's World Cup Victory Tour in December.
The U-23s are coming off a trip to Croatia in March where the team defeated the Slovenia Women's National Team, 3-0, tied the Poland U-19 Women's National Team, 0-0, and defeated the France National "B" Team, 2-0.
The 2015 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, Lavelle had a breakout season offensively for Wisconsin last year with a team-leading 17 points on seven goals and three assists. The first Badger to be named a first-team All-American since 1991, Lavelle was also a semifinalist for the 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy, which recognizes the top individual player in college soccer. Lavelle was a second-team All-American in 2014 as a sophomore and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2013.
