Jordan Hahn and newcomer Pete Kuhl just miss qualifying
BISHOP BAY QUALIFYING RESULTS
MADISON, Wis. – Eddie Wajda III qualified for the sectionals of the USGA Open Tuesday with a 1-under 71 at Bishop's Bay Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin.
Wajda, who just completed his sophomore season on the UW men's golf team, had two birdies and a bogey to place in a tie for second. Michael Schachner of Chicago, Illinois, won the qualifier with a 3-under 69.
Incoming freshman Pete Kuhl of Morton, Illinois, just missed qualifying after placing in a five-way tie for third with even par 72. Sophomore-to-be Jordan Hahn tied for ninth with a 1 over 73.
"So proud of Eddie, Pete, and Jordan competing to try and get to the US Open," Badger coach Michael Burcin said. "With the young guys dominating our lineup this past year and then with what these three did today, the fruits of our recruiting efforts the last few years are paying off.
"Between those three, they were 1-over par on a hard setup and Pete had never seen the golf course before he teed off. Pete is going to have a great career in Madison as he is a tireless worker with a very motivated attitude! Â This was just a glimpse of what he will do while wearing the motion W.
"Eddie is excited for sectionals and it will be exciting to watch compete for a spot at Oakmont!"
Wajda is one of nearly 600 players who will advance to sectional qualifying in this second and final stage for U.S. Open players. Golfers will play 36 holes on June 6 at one of 12 venues in the U.S., Japan and England. Wajda will know in a week which course he will be assigned.
The 116th U.S. Open will be held June 13-19 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.Â
