MADISON, Wis. — Today we feature two Athlete of the Year nominees from softball and wrestling, Kelsey Jenkins and Isaac Jordan, respectively.
Kelsey Jenkins, Softball
There was no sophomore slump for Kelsey Jenkins. One year after becoming UW's first-ever freshman first-team All-Big Ten selection, she earned her second consecutive first-team All-Big Ten honor again as a sophomore. She became Wisconsin's 11th all-time honoree and just the third two-time selection.
The Tucson, Arizona, native also earned her first NFCA Great Lakes All-Region second team honor in 2015-16 after clinching the highest on-base percentage (.568) and second-highest single-season batting average (.409) in school history.
Jenkins shattered the UW single-season walks record that she had already set as a freshman and led the conference with 49 walks. She led Wisconsin with 16 multiple-hit games and reached base safely in 38 consecutive games, double the amount of any of her teammates.
Jenkins also led the Badgers in eight separate categories in 2016: batting average (.409), on-base percentage (.568), runs scored (49), hits (61), home runs (7), walks (49), stolen bases (15) and steal attempts (21). Her 49 runs were the second-most in a single season in program history.
Isaac Jordan, Wrestling
Isaac Jordan had a season for the record books in 2015-16.
The junior finished what was an astounding season with a 29-1 record and became the 13th wrestler in program history to become a three-time All-American. Jordan also won his second-straight Big Ten title and recorded his highest finish at the NCAAs championships.
Jordan was named first team All-Big Ten for the second consecutive year and was named the team's Most Outstanding Wrestler in 2015-16 by the Wisconsin coaches.
The Urbana, Ohio, native defeated 11 ranked opponents during the season and brought home first-place crowns with his 5-0 performance at the Navy Classic and 6-0 slate at the Cliff Keen Invite.
The 2016 Sconnie Sports Talk Individual of the Year finished the season ranked No. 2 in the country by Intermat, WIN Magazine, FLOWrestling and The Open Mat.
