Men's fall golf schedule announced

Familiar venues with a few new events await Badgers

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's golf team announced it's 2016 fall schedule Wednesday and will add several new courses to its fall lineup in addition to a home meet, a return to California, trips to Chicago and Milwaukee and a visit to The Grove in College Grove, Tennessee.
The Badgers will open the season at home Sept. 11-12, hosting their fourth-straight Badger Invitational at UW's home course, University Ridge. UW was seventh in the 12-team field this past year. Kansas won the event with an 865.
Wisconsin will visit Middle Tennessee State, Sept. 18-20, to play in the Intercollegiate at The Grove in College Grove, Tennessee. This is the second year UW will travel to Tennessee where they placed eighth in the 12-team field last October. Eddie Wajda recorded his top tournament finish at the rain-shortened event, placing fifth with a 1-over 73-72—145.
Among the new courses played this fall, UW will participate again in the Windom Memorial hosted by Northwestern this year, Sept. 25-26, at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois. The Badgers will participate Oct. 3-4 in the Marquette Invitational held at the Milwaukee Country Club.
Wisconsin returns to California Nov. 6-8 for a tournament hosted by UCLA. The Gifford Intercollegiate takes place annually at different courses in California. This year, it will be at the prestigious Silverado Golf Club in Napa, California. Last fall, the team played in the tournament, which was held at the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California, where it finished 10th.Â
In addition, some individuals will head to Kennesaw, Georgia, Oct. 24-25, to participate in the Pine Tree Intercollegiate.
Sixth-year head coach Michael Burcin said, "We think this coming fall and the events we've scheduled will give us a good chance to be in position to make a run at postseason come the spring. Our home event will have the strongest field it has had since we brought back the Badger Invitational. This will be a nice way to start the fall. Â
"It will be nice to have a few short trips this fall while also being able to play such strong courses in Chicago and Milwaukee. Â Wrapping up our fall the last few years at the Gifford (Intercollegiate), which will be in Napa this season, is such a treat and it is one the finest events in college golf."Â
In the spring, Wisconsin will be among all 14 conference teams participating April 21-23 in the 54-hole Big Ten championships which will be held at a new location at the Baltimore Country Club in Baltimore, Maryland.
The rest of the spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
