Wisconsin will face top competition, host event in Arizona

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's golf team announced its 2016-17 schedule on Wednesday, whicih will begin in the Twin Cities, Sept. 12-13, at the Minnesota Invitational played at the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis. This is a new event for the Badgers.
Last year, UW played host in Madison to the match play event co-hosted by Michigan and Wisconsin. This year the third-annual event will return to the university course in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The East-West Match Play Challenge will be hosted by the Wolverines, Sept. 18-20, at Radrick Farms Golf Course. The eight-team tournament combines medal scoring for qualifying and then match play in the same weekend. Ohio State won the inaugural event, while Oregon prevailed last season.
UW will return to a top-ranked field for a seventh year at the Cougar Classic Oct. 2-4 hosted by the College of Charleston at the Yeaman's Hall Club in Charleston, South Carolina.
On Oct. 24-25, the Badgers will participate for a second year in the Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville at their university course in Louisville, Kentucky. UW had one of its top scores of the year last fall at this event, placing fourth of 15 with a score of 896. Brooke Ferrell tied for medalist honors with her 3-under par 66-74-73—213.
Wisconsin's spring schedule contains many familiar venues. The Badgers hope to knock the winter rust off when they return to the UCF Challenge, Feb. 5-7, at the Eagle Creek Golf Course in Orlando.
UW again hosts the sixth annual Westbrook Spring Invitational at the Vistas Course at Westbrook Village in Peoria, Arizona. This annual event attracts a number of top teams each year. Wisconsin was 10th of 15 with a 293-291-290--874. Brooke Ferrell earned her second medalist honors of the year by tying for first with a 5-under 71-71-69—211.
The Badgers return to Florida, March 11-12, for a new event, the SunTrust Gator Invitational, held at the Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida.
UW returns to the south for the Briar's Creek Invitational held March 20-21 at Briar's Creek Golf Course on John's Island, South Carolina.
Wisconsin goes international April 2-4 when it travels to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, for the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational. Hosted by the University of Iowa, the 54-hole tournament will be held at the El Tigre Golf Club.
The spring season wraps up with the Big Ten championship, which will be held at a new venue this year. The 54-hole tournament will be April 21-23 at TPC River's Bend Golf Course in Maineville, Ohio.
The Badgers had their best team score of the year at the conference meet last year, placing 4th/14 with 289-290-283—862. Brooke Ferrell led the field for the first two days before finishing third with a new school record at 7-under 65-72-72—209. Becky Klongland had a top-10 finish with a personal best 74-71-68—213.
