Wajda ties for fourth in Wisconsin State Amateur

Defending champion shoots 2-over 65-77-70-70--282

MENASHA, WIs. -- UW junior Eddie Wajda III shot even par the last two days but was unable to make up ground and finished tied for fourth with a 2-over 65-77-70-70--282 in the 115th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship at North Shore Golf Course in Menasha, Wisconsin.
The defending champion, who won the 72-hole event, last year held at Erin Hills Golf Course by one stroke with a 5-over par 74-77-72-70--293, led the field after the first day with a 5-under 65. But shot a 77 in the second round and was unable to regain the lead.
Nick Nelson of Milwaukee won the event with a 4-under 68-70-69-69--276 on the par 70, 6,514-yard course.
Other Badgers competing were junior Johnny Decker who tied for 15th with an 8-over 71-72-72-73--288. Senior Ben Skogen tied for 18th at 9-over 71-73-71-74--289.
The Wisconsin State Amateur Championship sponsored by West Bend Insurance, conducted by the Wisconsin State Golf Association since 1901, is the premier amateur tournament held in WisconsinÂ
