Badgers look to make a statement at Cougar Classic

UW set to face 20 teams
MADISON, Wis. -- Fresh off a tournament victory, the Wisconsin women's golf team hopes to carry its success into the Cougar Classic on Oct. 2-4 as the Badgers travel to Hanahan, South Carolina.

Hosted by the College of Charleston, the 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,224-yard Yeamans Hall Club.

Joining the Badgers are UCF, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Auburn, North Carolina State, Clemson, Michigan, Florida State, Indiana, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Louisville, Penn State, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Maryland, Chattanooga and Charleston Southern in the 21-team field.

Senior Brooke Ferrell, juniors Gabby Curtis and Becky Klongland as well as sophomores Nat Zeng and Jessica Reinecke will compete for UW.

Last time out, the Badgers took home the East West Match Play Challenge title after defeating Oregon in the championship final thanks to a final-hole win secured by Zeng. In the semifinal, Klongland sunk her final putt to take down Kentucky in thrilling fashion.

Curtis led UW at last year's Cougar Classic, finishing at 8-over to tie for 35th place. The Badgers placed 18th as a team.

The 2016 Cougar Classic tees off Sunday at 7 a.m. and Tuesday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
