All five Badgers earn top-20 finishes
LEXINGTON, Ky. – On the strength of a balanced lineup that saw all five golfers place among the top 20, the Wisconsin women's golf team finished second at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
The 54-hole tournament was originally scheduled to be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday but the threat of poor weather caused Sunday's final round to be moved to Saturday, setting up a marathon 36-hole final day.
That was just fine for the Badgers, who shot the best round of the morning, carding a 1-over par 289 as a team to jump from fourth place into second. UW kept that momentum going in the final round to hold onto to its best stroke play finish of the season.
All five Badgers in the lineup earned top-20 finishes. Senior Lexi Harkins led the way in seventh place at +1 after shooting two even-par rounds of 72 on Saturday. Junior Jessica Reinecke earned the first top-10 finish of her career, placing ninth at +3. Seniors Becky Klongland and Aya Johnson tied for 15th place at +6 while classmate Gabby Curtis finished one stroke back in a tie for 20th. For Johnson, who had missed the last two seasons due to injury, it was her first top-20 finish as a Badger.
Freshman Mackenzie Hahn competed as an individual, finishing tied for 91st at +40.
The Badgers have earned top-five finishes in all three of their stroke play tournaments this fall, in addition to a runner-up finish at the East-West Match Play Challenge. Up next for UW is the Cardinal Cup on Oct. 21-22 in Simpsonville, Ky. Wisconsin finished second at that tournament a year ago.
