Wisconsin’s women check in at No. 12, men at No. 25 in initial coaches poll
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the season ranked in the top 25 of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) preseason poll.
The Badgers women are ranked 12th, the third-highest ranked Big Ten team, and the men are ranked in a tie for 25th, rounding out a list of five ranked conference teams.
Throughout the season, the Badgers will take on a number of ranked opponents, including the first four teams Wisconsin will face: Auburn (11th-ranked women's team, eighth-ranked men's team), Tennessee (13th, 18th), Georgia (fourth, seventh) and NC State (seventh, third).
"That's by design," head coach Whitney Hite said. "Those are the teams we want to compete against at (the NCAA championships) so there's no point to waiting until the end.
"It's a tough schedule, but the team will be ready to answer the bell."
The Badgers open their 2017-18 slate this Friday and Saturday by taking on Auburn and Tennessee in a two-day meet in Auburn, Alabama.
