Malone named Big Ten Third Star of the Week
November 28, 2017 | Men's Hockey
Junior forward had four-point weekend to lead the Badgers' offense
MADISON, Wis. – Leading the charge last weekend for the Wisconsin men's hockey offense was junior forward Seamus Malone, who scored in both games and led the Badgers with four points against Mercyhurst. For those efforts, Malone was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week.
Malone, who entered the weekend without a goal in seven games, broke the seal on Saturday, scoring a goal from behind the goal line off the MU goaltender that gave UW a 2-1 lead in the third period. He also chipped in two shots and was plus-1 in the game. UW eventually dropped the game, 3-2.
Then Sunday, Malone struck again, again breaking a 1-1 tie, this time late in the second period. The goal gave UW the lead for good. He also assisted UW's third and fourth goals in what ended up a 4-2 victory. He fired off three shots and was plus-2 in the contest.
Malone's second career three-point night also gave him his second career four-point weekend.
Malone was part of a line that included Cameron Hughes and Will Johnson. The trio accounted for three goals and 10 points on the weekend. UW scored six goals and 18 points in the two games.
Malone, who earns his second career weekly honor from the Big Ten after getting named the league's first star back on Jan. 10 of last season, boasts six goals and 13 points in 17 games to share third on the Badgers.
