Sophomore continues solid play with 2-under first round
AWENDAW, S.C. -- Sophomore Jordan Hahn, who has paced the Wisconsin men's golf team in four of the last six tournaments, fired a 2-under par 70 and is tied for 12th place after the opening round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
Â
As a team, the Badgers shot 6-over par 294 and finished the first round in 15th place.
Â
Hahn bogeyed his fourth and fifth holes of the day (Nos. 13 and 14) but bounced back to birdie the next two. He was at even par until recording an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. Â
Â
"Jordan played great and continues to play great as the season progresses," UW head coach Mike Burcin said. "I think our youth really showed today. We started out kind of tight and nervous which impacted our play so hopefully we can work that out tomorrow."
Â
Both freshman Pete Kuhl and sophomore Brett Robinson shot a 2-over 74 to tie for 51st.
Â
Senior Ben Skogen recorded a 4-over 76 to end the day tied for 71st. At 5-over, freshman Nick Robinson enters the second round in a tie for 78th.
Â
Georgia State leads at 11-under, followed by South Carolina (-9), Virginia (-7), Mississippi (-5) and Auburn (-4) in the top-five. The Badgers (+6) are just four strokes off 13th-place College of Charleston and two behind Charleston Southern.
Â
"We're by no means out of it. We've got a course where you can make a lot of birdies so we'll shuffle some things around and the guys are eager to get back to it tomorrow," Burcin said. "We're probably going to face some tougher conditions tomorrow but we're excited to have a good day and move up the leaderboard."
Â
The second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate is set to tee off Monday at 8 a.m. (CT). Live scoring can be found at BirdieFire.com.
