Badgers end second round of Hootie at Bulls Bay on a high note
March 27, 2017 | Men's Golf
Hahn sits at 2-over to lead UW into final round
AWENDAW, S.C. -- The second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate proved to be a tale of two halves as the Wisconsin men's golf team improved throughout the round to sit in 15th place.
Â
The Badgers (294-305=599) recovered from a slow start to enter the final round with plenty of momentum.
Â
"We started out okay and our second nine was really solid, but we had a five-hole stretch in the middle of the round where we struggled," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "Obviously we can't have those stretches and the guys know that so hopefully that will be another learning experience as we had some more youth showing through today."
Â
Jordan Hahn, who enters the final round at 2-over, ended the day tied for 42nd after recording a 4-over 76. After struggling to start, Hahn responded by playing two-under par on the back-nine.
Â
At six-over, sophomore Brett Robinson (74-76=150) sits in a tie for 62nd, while freshman Pete Kuhl (74-77=151) shot a 5-over 70 to sit one stroke back in a tie for 69th.
Â
Freshman Nick Robinson (77-76=153) recorded a 4-over 76 to shave one stroke off yesterday's round and move into a tie for 74th. Joining Robinson in the tie is senior Ben Skogen (76-77=153), who recorded a 5-over 77 to enter the final round at 9-over.
Â
"They're young and they're very resilient, so they were able to play really solid on the back nine today after a bad stretch in the morning and that's encouraging," Burcin said. "We look forward to tomorrow and we still have the opportunity to move up a few spots so I'm sure they'll come ready to play."
Â
South Carolina and Mississippi enter the final round tied for the lead at 11-under. North Carolina is in third at eight-under, followed by Georgia State (-6), Missouri (-2) and Kentucky (-2) to round out the top-five. At 23-over, the Badgers are just four strokes behind 14th-place Charleston Southern.
Â
The final round will tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m. (CT). Live scoring can be found at BirdieFire.com.
