UW sits in seventh entering final round
BLUFFTON, S.C. -- Fighting against strong winds and spots of rain, the Wisconsin men's golf team sits in seventh place through 36 holes of the Colleton River Collegiate at the Dye Course.Â
Leading the pack was Jordan Hahn (68-78=146), who fired a 4-under 68 to start and sat atop the players' leaderboard following the first round. At 2-over, Hahn is tied for seventh entering the final round.
"Jordan had a great first round," UW assistant coach Blaine Woodruff said. "A 68 out there in those conditions was really good and he's still in the mix not only for a great event but a chance to win this thing."
Both Pete Kuhl (77-75=152) and Brett Robinson (78-75=153) shot a 3-over 75 to end the day with their best round and move into a tie for 26th and 31st, respectively.
Ben Skogen (74-79=153), who is competing as an individual, followed up on a 2-over 74 performance in the morning to end the day at 9-over and joins Brett Robinson in a tie for 31st.
Eddie Wajda (78-78=156) fired back-to-back 6-over 78's to end the second round in a tie for 46th.
At 13-over, Nick Robinson (77-80=157) recorded a 5-over 77 to open the tournament and currently sits in a tie for 51st.
"I think there were some bright spots today," Woodruff said. "The result wasn't exactly what we wanted but we hit some good strides and had some solid patches so we're looking forward to getting back into the mix of things."
In team standings, Alabama-Birmingham leads at 14-over, followed by Michigan State (+16), Cincinnati (+18), Rutgers (+21) and Connecticut (+24) to complete the top-five. Memphis finished one stroke ahead of the Badgers at 29-over, while Miami (Ohio) is in eighth at 33-over. Cleveland State (+37), Oakland (+42) and Pennsylvania (+51) round out the 11-team field.
The final round of the Colleton River Collegiate will tee off Tuesday at 7 a.m. (CT). Live scoring can be followed at golfstatresults.com.
"It's supposed to be 10 to 15 mph more wind tomorrow so if we can just stay composed and stick to our game plan, a lot of pars will actually move us up the leader board significantly," Woodruff said.Â
