Terry Westegard's act was an instant hit when he first came down from Section X in 1975
MADISON, Wis. — Some liquid courage sent Terry Westegard out of his seat in Section X during a 1975 game at Camp Randall Stadium, but it was the cheers from the crowd that kept him going back to join the Wisconsin cheerleading squad on the field over the next six years.
Decked out in a fuzzy red helmet and fur-lined skirt, the Portage Plumber became a memorable part of home games for a generation of Badgers fans that watched as the UW football program began to turn a corner under head coach Dave McClain.
