Wisconsin suffers first loss of season to No. 2 Stanford

Badgers fall 5-0 to reigning Pac-12 champions
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season against No. 2 Stanford in a 5-0 final on Sunday night at the Marquette Valley Fields.
The Badgers nearly held the reigning Pac-12 champions scoreless through the first half of play, but Stanford finally broke through in the 43rd minute when Sam Hiatt sent a header in off the assist from Andi Sullivan for a 1-0 lead.
Quickly starting the second half, the Cardinal scored on a penalty kick and captured a 2-0 lead after Kyra Carusa scored in the 50th minute.
Stanford's Catarina Macario added the game's third goal in the 56th minute by scoring off of a cross from Michelle Xiao and Jordan DiBiasi.
Macario notched the fourth goal for Stanford in the 66th minute, slotting it in from 15 yards out.
The final goal for the Cardinal came in the 85th minute from Civana Kuhlmann.
UW goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem registered three saves in net and played the full 90 minutes.
Wisconsin earned four corner kicks, while Stanford had five.
Up Next: The Badgers return home to host Creighton on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. (CT) and Northern Illinois on Aug. 27 at 1 p.m.
