5 Things to Know: Minnesota Invitational

UW opens 2017-18 season on Monday
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's golf team opens the 2017-18 season this weekend at the Minnesota Invitational at Prestwick Golf Club (par 72, 6,248 yards) in Woodbury, Minn. The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to run Monday and Tuesday. Action will begin at 7:45 a.m. with 36 holes scheduled Monday followed by an 18-hole shotgun start on Tuesday. Here's what you need to know heading into this weekend:
1. PLAYING THE FIELD: Among the 14-team field are will be fellow Big Ten members Michigan State, Minnesota and Purdue, as well as Kansas, Kansas State, BYU, East Carolina, Georgia, USC, Virginia Tech, North Texas, Notre Dame and Louisville.
2. LOOKING BACK: The Badgers placed fourth as a team at last year's tournament as three individuals placed among the top-20. Then-senior Brooke Ferrell finished eighth while Gabby Curtis tied for 13th and Tess Hackworthy earned a share of 17th.Â
3. SQUAD: Wisconsin is bringing six golfers to Minnesota: seniors Gabby Curtis, Lexi Harkins, Aya Johnson and Becky Klongland, junior Jessica Reinecke and sophomore Bobbi Stricker. Stricker will compete as an individual.
4. WHO TO WATCH: Curtis, Klongland and junior Nat Zeng were recently named among the Big Ten's Golfers to Watch. Read about their summer on the links here. Â Â Â
5. NEW KID IN TOWN: Harkins will be playing in her first tournament for the Badgers after transferring from North Carolina for her senior season.
