Junior netminder stopped 37 shots, registered .974 save percentage in tie
MADISON, Wis. – After backstopping the Badgers to a hard-fought tie against No. 14 Michigan in his home state last Friday, junior goaltender Jack Berry was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Holding the Wolverines scoreless through two periods, the Holly, Michigan, native stopped 37 of 38 shots in the series opener, registering a .974 save percentage and a 0.92 goals against average en route to a draw.
The .974 save clip, Berry's highest of the season, ranked third among all NCAA goaltenders over the weekend.
The award marks Berry's fifth career Big Ten Star of the Week honor and his second this season. Berry's last conference nod came after the netminder stuffed nine of 11 power-play shots and 57 total shots in two games to lead UW to a sweep of Boston College in October.
In 45 contests for the Badgers, Berry owns a .896 save percentage, a 2.94 goals against average and four shutouts, good for 10th place on Wisconsin's all-time shutout list.
