Junior nabs award after outstanding 2018 season
MADISON, Wis. – Women's soccer junior Victoria Pickett proved herself to be one of the most elite players in the country this season, and now she's getting the recognition for it. The UW midfielder was named a first-team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches Association, it was announced Thursday night.
Pickett is the first All-American since Rose Lavelle was named a second-team All-American in 2016, and takes home first-team honors since Lavelle earned the accolade in 2015. Including Pickett, Wisconsin now has five first-team All-Americans in program history, including Heather Taggart, who earned the honor two years in a row in 1990 and 1991.
"This is a tremendous honor for Victoria and our program," head coach Paula Wilkins said. "We are happy her hard work and dedication has been recognized, and this season she was an integral part of our team's success."
Earlier this week, Pickett was announced as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy as well as awarded first-team All-Region accolades from United Soccer Coaches.
The Barrie, Ontario native was a centerpiece to Wisconsin's sweet 16 run this season, holding down head coach Paula Wilkins' midfield and opening up space for Wisconsin's forwards.
Pickett is the program's second semifinalist in program three years, the other being Lavelle in 2015. It is also her second consecutive season making an All-Region team.
Pickett logged one goal and four assists in 2018 for a total of six points.
