Wisconsin junior Beata Nelson recognized for outstanding performance in Texas
MADISON, Wis. – Following her exceptional performance at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational, Wisconsin junior Beata Nelson was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season.
In a see-it-to-believe-it 100-yard backstroke showing, Nelson broke the collegiate, American and U.S. open records with her winning time of 49.67.
Nelson also recorded nation-leading times in the 200-yard back (1:40.10) and 200-yard individual medley (1:53.08).
Putting the cherry on top, Nelson nabbed UW's fastest-ever 100-yard butterfly with a 50.90 finish.
The Madison native now owns UW individual records in the 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly and 200 IM.
Record books are safe from Nelson's fury for the remainder of December, but as the junior returns to the pool on Jan. 4 in Honolulu, Hawaii – watch out.
