Wisconsin shuts out Green Bay to Sweep doubleheader
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin (4-2) stayed mentally strong in the second half of their doubleheader on Saturday night at Nielsen. The Badgers sent a message to in-state rival Green Bay, with a definitive 4-0 sweep to garner two wins on the day.
Wisconsin earned its sixth-straight doubles point to kick off the match. After scrambling the doubles lineup this morning against East Tennessee State, head coach Danny Westerman flicked his wand and worked some magic again.
Sophomore Daniel Soyfer teamed up with senior Darius Mackenzie -- who hasn't played a match yet this spring -- to take home a win on court six. The tandem won over Felix Triebeand Tony Leto, 6-1. Senior Chema Carranza and freshman Jesper Freimuth earned their second win of the day over Green Bay's Miles McDowall, 6-3.
The Badgers took the momentum straight into the singles frame, winning three matches to clinch and claim the dual.
Soyfer ended his successful day with another straight-sets win, beating Green Bay's Charlie Croxford, 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomore Chase Colton and Freimuth finished simultaneously at the No. 4 and 5 spots to finish the day. Colton won over Felix Triebe 6-0, 6-1 while Freimuth beat Miles McDowall 6-1, 6-3.
Up Next: Wisconsin heads to the west coast next weekend for matches against Oregon and Washington. The Badgers will face the Ducks on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) and enjoy a day off before squaring up against the Huskies for a match on Sunday at noon.
