Wisconsin grabs third in Mexico

Harkins leads Badgers with an individual second place finish
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico -- Led by an impressive outing from senior Lexi Harkins, the Wisconsin women's golf team rallied to a third place finish at the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
"I am very proud of how we competed and got ourselves back into the tournament after a poor start. The conditions were very demanding all weekend, and we showed a lot of composure and competitiveness to the end," said Head Coach Todd Oehrlein.
After a tough first round, the Badgers battled back to tie for fourth at the end of the opening day of competition.
On the final day of play, UW rallied against an elite field of four top 50 nationally ranked competitors, alternating between second, third and fourth place throughout Saturday's final round.
A dominant showing by senior Lexi Harkins helped Wisconsin grab third place out of 12 teams finishing with an 893 (+29).Â
Harkins, who had yet to finish in the top 20 this spring, finished with a tie for second, shooting a 216 (E). The effort included a dominant second round finish of 69, the second best round score of the invitational.
The Badgers had two additional top 25 performances from seniors Gabby Curtis and Aya Johnson tying for 21st out of the entire field.
Up Next: The Badgers will travel to Sunset, South Carolina, March 23-25, for the Clemson Invitational at the Reserve of Lake Keowee.
