
Ziemek takes sixth in IAAF World Indoor Championships

Big Ten record-holder in the heptathlon scores big in Great Britain
BIRMINGHAM, G.B. – In his third heptathlon competition of the indoor season, Big Ten record-holder, Olympian, and former Badger Zach Ziemek competed for the U.S. in the heptathlon at last weekend's IAAF World Indoor Championship meet and finished sixth for the Red, White and Blue.
The first day of competition started off with the 60-meter dash, where Ziemek sprinted to a third-place finish thanks to a time of 6.89 seconds.
Ziemek continued his campaign in Birmingham with a season-best mark of 7.21 meters in the long jump. He then went on to the shot put, where he threw the shot a distance of 13.48 meters.
In the last event of the day, Ziemek finished third in the high jump with a mark of 2.02 meters.
The final day of heptathlon events kicked off with the 60 meter hurdles, where Ziemek finished sixth with a time of 8.14. The Itasca, Illinois native then went on to tie for fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.10 meters.
"Double Z" finished the 7-discipline event with the 1000 meters, crossing the line in 2 minutes, 51.73 seconds to secure his sixth place overall finish, earning 5,941 points.
Ziemek is no stranger to world competition, as his impressive resume includes an appearance at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he finished seventh overall in the decathlon with a score just 21 points shy of his personal best.
