Badgers meet rivals in the Queen City
MADISON, Wis. —  The Wisconsin women's golf team will compete at the Big Ten Championships, April 20-22, at TPC River's Bend in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Here are five things to know before the tournament:
1. Last time out:  Senior Aya Johnson shot a 1-under par 71 in the final round to lead the Badgers to a tie for 14th at the nationally competitive Silverado Showdown in Napa, California.
2. The Queen City: Wisconsin will take on their Big Ten rivals at TPC River's Bend, a private golf club located in Maineville, Ohio. Designed by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer in 2001, the course currently operates as a Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour.
TPC River's Bend also hosted last year's Big Ten Championships. The Badgers matched their best finish since 2011 by placing fourth a year ago and Becky Klongland led the way individually, tying for eight place. It was her second consecutive top-10 finish at the conference tournament.
3. Fearsome Fivesome: Wisconsin will travel the experienced starting five lineup of seniors Gabby Curtis, Lexi Harkins, Aya Johnson and Klongland, as well as junior Jessica Reinecke to the Big Ten Championships this coming weekend. That group continues its streak of playing in every match of the 2017-18 season together.Â
4. B1G Rivals:  The No. 37 Badgers take on No. 10 Northwestern, No. 11 Michigan State, No. 22 Illinois, No. 31 Purdue, No. 46 Ohio State, Indiana, Penn State, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Rutgers.Â
5. Thoughts from Coach Oehrlein:Â
"We return to TPC River's Bend again this year. Four of our six played there last year and I feel that the familiarity with the golf course will help. We really liked the golf course last year and look forward to returning.
"I love our depth this year. We've had great balance and I know that all six players can lead us at any point. That has been a strength of ours throughout the season.
"It will be important for us to take advantage of the par 5's on the golf course. Overall, we'll need to drive the ball well and stay very committed to our lines off the tee."
