Five Badgers into the NHL’s conference semifinals

At least one Badger will play in all four second-round series
MADISON, Wis. – With the first round of the NHL playoffs ending on Wednesday with a Game 7 finish, the second round of the playoffs gets underway on Thursday night.
San Jose's Joe Pavelski, Nashville's Craig Smith and Kyle Turris, Pittsburgh's Justin Schultz and Tampa Bay's Ryan McDonagh will each continue on their Stanley Cup quests.
Joe Pavelski scored a goal and four assists in San Jose's sweep of the Ducks. His four postseason power-play points are tied for fifth in the league. The Sharks will face Las Vegas, who became the first NHL team to sweep a playoff series in its inaugural season after the Golden Knights went 4-0 over Los Angeles in round one.
The second-round series begins in Vegas at 9 p.m. CT on Thursday.
Nashville, featuring linemates Craig Smith and Kyle Turris, defeated Colorado in round one, 4-2. Smith tallied two goals in the series while Turris added an assist.
The Predators will face Winnipeg after the Jets beat Minnesota, 4-1. The Wild were without Ryan Suter, who suffered an ankle injury at the end of the regular season.
The Nashville-Winnipeg series begins on Friday with a 7 p.m. CT start in Nashville.
In the East, Justin Schultz tallied a goal and two assists to help the Penguins defeat Philadelphia, 4-2. Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott started four games, including a 34-save performance in a game two.
Pittsburgh has history on its side in round two, facing the Capitals in the second round for a third-consecutive year. The series begins at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday in Washington.
Ryan McDonagh helped Tampa Bay to a 4-1 series victory over New Jersey in round one, scoring four assists and going +2 in the series. The Lightning will play Boston, which survived the first round after nearly blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Toronto Maple Leafs and former Badger defenseman Jake Gardiner.
Gardiner finished the series with two assists and 13 shots in the series.
