Badgers open up fall play in Ann Arbor
MADISON, Wis. —  The Wisconsin women's golf team opens their fall season in Ann Arbor, Michigan, competing at the East-West Match Play Challenge, Sept. 16-18, at the Radrick Farms Golf Course.
Here are five things to know before season starts:
1. Last time out:  The Badgers lost three of their five starters from last season to graduation, including 2018 NCAA finalist Gabby Curtis. Wisconsin still has talented veterans in Aya Johnson, back after being granted a sixth year of eligibility, and senior Jessica Reinecke to lead their lineup.
2. The Farm: Wisconsin visits Radrick Farms Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan this weekend. A secluded course designed by famed architect Pete Dye that first opened in 1965. Radrick Farms was Dye's first course design and sits at a layout of 6,967 yards. The last time the Match Play event was held in Ann Arbor, in 2016, UW won the title.
3. The Five: The Badgers will travel Johnson, Reinecke, sophomore Alyssa Gromala, and freshmen Gabrielle Tomeo and Tracy Lee to Michigan. Junior Bobbi Stricker will compete as an individual.
4. Opening Day Competition:  The Badgers will face Michigan, Iowa State, Oregon State, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas A&M and UC Davis.
5. Thoughts from Coach Oehrlein:Â
"We're excited to get started and I look forward to starting the fall."
"We have experience with Aya and Jess and I'm confident that they'll do an outstanding job for us. Tracy, Alyssa, Gabrielle, and Bobbi fill out the remainder of our line-up and 3 of them will be playing in their first tournament. That is such an exciting time for them and I look forward to seeing them out on the course competing for us."Â
"We had a very competitive weekend of qualifying and have a number of players that will be in the mix throughout the season. "
"Radrick Farms is a an outstanding golf course and this first event has a great field. We co-host this East West Match Play event with Michigan and it has developed into a very popular event."
