Junior Dani Rhodes earns honor after two goals in Big Ten opening weekend
MADISON, Wis. – At first the "Rhodes" led to a golden goal and now they head straight to Big Ten honors. Following a two-goal weekend, Wisconsin women's soccer (7-1-1, 1-0-1) junior Dani Rhodes has been awarded Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. The honor is the first given to a Wisconsin women's soccer player this season.
Â
This past weekend Rhodes put up two goals in the opening weekend of conference play. Hosting No. 12 Northwestern, Rhodes knocked in the tying goal in a game that would end 1-1 after double overtime. On Sunday, Sept. 16 Rhodes delivered the final blow to Illinois, taking a pass from teammate Jordan McNeese in the second overtime and finding the back of the net, securing a Badgers' victory.
Rhodes was held without a point from Wisconsin's game versus Florida State (Aug. 23) until the Portland game (Sept. 2) in which the Waukesha, Wis. native logged an assist for the first points of her season. Rhodes then posted an assist against Illinois State, an assist that led to Wisconsin's only, and winning, goal.
Â
Wisconsin's forward has 23 shots on the season to go along with nine shots on goal, two goals, two assists and six points.
Â
At the beginning of the season Rhodes was placed on the Big Ten preseason honors list as well as the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
