Wisconsin battles Rutgers to double overtime tie

Badgers log seven shots, 10 corner kicks in draw

MADISON, Wis. – A contested contest all evening long, the Wisconsin women's soccer team and Rutgers battled through regulation and two overtime periods before settling for a scoreless draw on Friday night at the McClimon Complex.

two extra periods of play were not enough for the Wisconsin women's soccer team  against Rutgers  Friday evening. Neither team able to find the back of the net, the game would end in a 0-0 draw.

The Scarlet Knights (6-1-4 overall, 4-1-3 Big Ten) found a few more chances than the Badgers (8-2-2, 3-1-2) and finished with three shots on goal, but UW goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer held firm with and recorded three saves.

Rutgers finished with an 8-7 shot advantage over Wisconsin, but the Badgers doubled up the Scarlet Knights in the corner kick category (10-5).

Senior midfielder Victoria Pickett led Wisconsin in shots with three, sophomore Lauren Rice added two, while sophomore Cameron Murtha and Dani Rhodes each contributed one.

Head coach Paula Wilkins

On the team's performance:
"I think getting a shutout is really important. I think Rutgers is a good team from the perspective of defending and they have a very dangerous attack with a player who has seven goals. I wish we were able to control the tempo of the game a little more and that's something we've talked about at halftime and also at the end of the game. I think that's something we'll learn from tonight."

On what the team could've done differently:
"I think we need to be more potent in our attack. Getting one shot on goal is not enough for us. We need to focus on that and that's something we'll talk about tomorrow and try to watch some video and get a little bit better at."

Up next: Wisconsin remains at home to host Maryland on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the McClimon Complex.
