Latest NCAA report shows 90 percent GSR for Wisconsin student-athletes
Comparatively, the national average for Football Bowl Subdivision schools collectively attained a GSR of 82 percent overall for the same time period.
For Wisconsin's academic services team, the yearly GSR metric is just one of the many ways the Badgers measure how their individual and personalized approach to supporting student-athletes is making a difference.
"We look at the GSR along with a multitude of other measures, such as our great APR (NCAA Academic Progress Rate) and our extremely high student-athlete GPAs (grade-point averages)," said Dan Rohrer, Wisconsin assistant athletic director for academic services.
"For us, graduation is always the goal, from where we start to where we end. We are helping our dedicated student-athletes achieve a degree that matters.
"We strive to provide a great student-athlete experience overall, not just in academics, but through all of Forward360 — our holistic wellness program. We're fortunate to be able to provide this high level of individual service and maximize each student-athlete's academic achievement opportunities."

What's the GSR?
The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) to more accurately assess the long-term academic success of student-athletes. The rate holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the federal graduation rate. The GSR also accounts for midyear enrollees and is calculated for every sport. Under the calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing. The outgoing transfers are included in the receiving institution's GSR class. The GSR allows student-athletes six years to earn their degree.
