Badgers shut out Boilermakers for fifth-straight conference win

Bloomer clinches her seventh shutout this season

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 13 Wisconsin women's soccer team proved to be relentless whether they are home or away as they left Purdue victorious with a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Badgers (9-2-1, 5-0-0) remained on top of the Big Ten Conference and are off to a 5-0-0 start in league play for the first time in school history.

Freshman Jenna Kiraly scored Sunday's lone goal for Wisconsin, coming in the 40th minute on an assist from Junior Jordan McNeese after a cross from Senior Allie Winterfield. It marked Kiraly's first collegiate goal.

Jordyn Bloomer controlled the pressure from Purdue (6-6-2, 2-4-1) on Sunday en route to earning her ninth win of the year and her seventh shutout of the season.

UW head coach Paula Wilkins
On the victory:

"I think it's great to get another Big Ten win. I think we've done it many different ways. In this game, obviously Jenna (Kiraly) got her first goal, and I think it's a credit to the team. We had players who came in and played some minutes that obviously created that goal right at the end of the half.  It shows that we're resilient to being on the road, playing on a Sunday, and getting contributions from many different areas."

On Kiraly's game-winning goal:
"A player getting her first career goal that wound up being the game-winning goal is huge, especially with being a freshman and everything. We're very happy about it. I think it shows how deep we can be and what roles people can play."

Notes to Know
  • Wisconsin controlled action in both halves, outshooting Purdue 10-4, including a 5-1 shots on goal advantage.
  • Junior Jordyn Bloomer earned her 15th career shutout of her career, which rank eighth in school history. She has posted shutouts in the Badgers' last three matches and has allowed only one goal in Big Ten play.
  • The Badgers are now on a five-game winning streak, while also posting their ninth-straight victory over the Boilermakers.
