Badgers sign two on National Signing Day
MADISON, WIS. - The Wisconsin men's golf team welcomes two new members to the team for the 2020-21 season, head coach Michael Burcin announced on Wednesday.
The Badgers have signed Cameron Huss from Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Ryan Smith of Eatonton, Georgia, to National Letters of Intent.
Huss currently attends Tremper High School and is a top-ranked player overall in the state. He recently won the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour Autumn Open, competing against the top players of the region. He also finished second in the 2019 Wisconsin State Golf Association Junior championship.
Head coach Michael Burcin and assistant coach Chris Gilbert on Huss:
"We are very fortunate to have the addition of Cameron Huss to our program. We are glad to have such a consistent player from within the state of Wisconsin. Not only has Cameron shown the ability to close out tournaments and win, he has also shown the ability to produce on a national level."
Smith currently attends Lake Oconee Academy and is currently ranked in the top 30 of his class in the state of Georgia. Ryan was the 2018 Georgia 1A State Champion, Player of the Year and First-Team All-State in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Ryan's father, Ted, played for the University of Wisconsin men's golf team.
Head coach Michael Burcin and assistant coach Chris Gilbert on Smith:
"Ryan comes from a highly competitive state for junior golf where he has shown he has the skill level that will translate to the collegiate level. Ryan has family ties to Wisconsin and loved campus from the moment he came to visit."
"Both of the commitments come from great families with ties to the state, something that is valuable to the team. Huss and Smith are great athletes who are highly competitive and will enhance the competitive culture of Wisconsin's program."
Both players and their families are eager to become part of the Badger family and Wisconsin welcomes them in anticipation of a successful future.Â
