Badgers add two players on national signing day
MADISON, Wis.- As signings take place around the country this week, the Badger women's golf program has acquired two new players for the 2020-21 season.
Gia Feliciano of Concord, California, and Janice Kim of Edina, Minnesota, have both chosen to come to Wisconsin, head coach Todd Oehrlein announced.
"We're extremely excited to welcome Gia and Janice to our program," Oehrlein said. "Both know how to win golf tournaments and we're excited about what they will add to our program. In addition to their play, they are both excellent students and will be great Badgers."
Feliciano is currently a senior at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California. Some of her accomplishments include winning the 2018 NCGA Junior Championship, a fifth-place finish at the 2019 AJGA Junior at San Jose, a share at ninth place of the 2018 AJGA Junior at Lake Merced, and advancing to the round of 32 for the 2019 USGA Girls Junior tournament.
She is the captain of her golf team, won the 2019 Diablo Athletic League (DAL) tournament, was named the 2018 DAL League MVP and was on the CIF Scholastic Team. Feliciano is also a four-time member of the California Scholarship Federation and a recipient of the AP Scholar award.
Head coach Todd Oehrlein on Feliciano:
"Gia has had an outstanding junior career and is a great competitor. She's coming off an outstanding summer and she continues to take great strides as a player."
Kim comes to Wisconsin from Edina High School where she is a senior. On the course, Kim has won the Western Junior Championship and was a two-year participant in the Minnesota vs. Wisconsin Cup. She joined the varsity golf team as a seventh grader, was all-conference and went to state all four years of high school. A varsity captain, Kim is ranked the No. one female golfer in the class of 2020 for Minnesota.
Off the course, she has participated with the Minnesota Youth Symphony at the highest level on violin for eight years.
Oehrlein on Kim:
"Janice has been one of the most successful players in Minnesota throughout her career. She's competing at a high level and continues to grow as a player."
