Rhodes named to Scholar All-America first-team, Cella earns spot on second squad
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer duo of Dani Rhodes and Maia Cella each earned national accolades for their work on the field and in the classroom on Wednesday, as the two were each named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America teams.
Rhodes, the Big Ten Forward of the Year, earned a spot on the first team, while Cella, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, was named to the second team.
A native of Waukesha, Rhodes, a three-time Academic All-Big ten honoree, is majoring in life sciences communications at UW-Madison and holds a grade-point average of 3.59. Her senior season at UW was a historic one, as she became the first Badger to be named the Big Ten Forward of the Year after scoring 13 goals – which ranked sixth in school history – while her nine game-winning goals ranked second in the country.
Cella, a junior from Evanston, Illinois, currently holds a 3.93 GPA while majoring in psychology. The midfielder is a two-time Academic All-Big ten selection and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar after the 2018 season. She was a stalwart in the middle of the pitch for UW, starting every game for the Badgers while leading UW to the Sweet 16 and a Big ten title.
