5 Things to Know: Mission Inn Spring Spectacular

Badgers look to bounce back in Sunshine State

MADISON, Wis. —  The Wisconsin men's golf team journeys to Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida to compete at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular this weekend.

Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:

1. Last Time Out: The Badgers grabbed a ninth place finish at the Colleton River Collegiate, off the effort of senior Jordan Hahn's fourth-place individual finish. Hahn's third round performance of 69 was the only sub-70 round of the day and secured the UW senior his third straight top-10 performance, and 10th of his career.

2. The Course: Mission Inn features a beautiful central Florida scenery with natural hills, pine and magnolia trees and natural wildlife that is regarded as one of the premier clubs in all of Florida. The site has played host to over 20 consecutive years of NCAA Championships, eight years of Florida State High School Championships and US Open/Amateur qualifying events.

3. The Lineup: Hahn, junior Pete Kuhl, and sophomores Sam Anderson, Griffin Barela and Tom Calbi will be in the starting lineup for UW. Freshman Cameron Frazier will play as an individual in Florida.

4. The Competition: The Badgers will face a 17-team field  that features Akron, Bethune-Cookman, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Florida A&M, George Mason, Illinois State, Indiana, Kansas State, Lehigh, North Alabama, Northern Illinois, Princeton, Richmond University of Central Florida and Yale.

5. Thoughts from Coach Burcin:
"As a group the kids were disappointed with the finish last week. We played some great golf in rounds 1 and 2 but need to play a complete event. They are excited to get back going in the right direction as we hope last week was a blip on the radar after how well the second half of the fall and the match play went.

"This spring break trip is a highlight for us every year. Playing two events on either side of break and lots of great golf courses in between will make for a productive and successful trip. We have such a great squad of kids and parents and we as a staff look forward to these trips as well as we get to spend a lot of time with an awesome group of families."
