
UW trio earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Hacker, McDonald and Monson earn national academic accolades
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin track and field trio of Olin Hacker, Morgan McDonald and Alicia Monson all earned spots on the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic Men's and Women's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team for District Six, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
It marks the second time that McDonald, the 2018 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Scholar Athlete of the Year for Cross Country, has earned CoSIDA accolades as the Sydney, Australia, native earned second-team Academic All-American honors in 2017. Hacker and Monson are both first-time recipients of the district academic award. Â
A USTFCCCA All-Academic selection last fall, Hacker holds a 3.97 grade-point average while majoring in biology. He was the team's top finisher at the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, leading the Cardinal and White to their 30th regional title. A native of Madison, Hacker earned first-team All-America honors in the distance medley relay at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and also won a Big Ten title in the event.
McDonald won three NCAA titles this year as he captured the NCAA cross country title at home in 2018 before winning the indoor 3K and 5K national titles earlier this year. He also won individual Big Ten Conference titles in cross country, the indoor 5000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters. In addition, the captain helped UW win its 49th Big Ten men's cross country title and led the squad to a fourth-place showing at the 2019 NCAA Indoor track and Field Championships. A native of Sydney, Australia, McDonald holds a 3.76 grade-point average and graduated with a degree in finance, investment and banking.
Monson enjoyed a breakout year for Wisconsin, winning the Big Ten and NCAA Great Lakes Region individual titles before finishing fourth for the Badgers at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She went on to win the 5000 meters at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year for the 2019 indoor season after sweeping the conference distance titles. Monson, a native of Amery, has a 3.86 grade-point average while majoring in nutritional sciences. Â
