MARIBOR, Slovenia – Make it 2-0 for the Wisconsin volleyball team on its European Tour. The Badgers downed the Polish U20 team 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 in straight sets on Sunday afternoon. The two teams played a friendly fourth set with Poland winning 25-22.
"Nicole (Shanahan) and Izzy (Ashburn) both had great matches," head coach
Kelly Sheffield said. "Neither one of them has a lot of college experience but neither of them blinked today – they played like Badgers."
Shanahan led the Badger defense at the net, recording 11 blocks. Her total would have been a career high if the match would have counted. Wisconsin outblocked the Polish team 16-8 as
Madison Duello added eight stuffs and
Danielle Hart put down five blocks.
Ashburn earned her first start at setter as the Badgers hit .263 (48 kills – 8 errors – 114 attempts.
Juniors
Grace Loberg and
Molly Haggerty led the UW offense, putting away 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Hart added nine kills.
Haggerty led the Badgers at the service line with two aces while Duello, Ashburn and
Riley Bell all added one ace.
