Big Ten Defender of the Year was picked in the second round by the Chicago Red Stars
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's soccer senior Camryn Biegalski is heading home as the Lombard, Illinois, native was drafted by the Chicago Red Stars in the second round of the 2020 National Women's Soccer League on Thursday.
The 2019 Big Ten Defender of the Year, Biegalski was picked 16th overall by Chicago during the four-round draft in Baltimore.
"I've dreamed about this day since I touched a soccer ball for the first time when I was four years old," Biegalski said. "When I got the phone call from the Red Stars I was overwhelmed with gratefulness. I can't wait to step on my hometown turf and get to work."
A second-team All-American in 2019, Biegalski led UW to a 2019 Big Ten title and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16. Thanks to Biegalski's tenacity on the backline, UW earned shutouts in 12 of its 22 games while going undefeated in the Big Ten Conference (10-0-1).
She finished her time as a Badger with two goals and six assists and led UW make four-straight NCAA appearances.
Bieglaski is the fourth Badger to be drafted and the first since Rose Lavelle went No. 1 in the 2017 NWSL Draft.
