Wisconsin closes Michigan series with an OT loss

UW falls short in its first 3v3 OT of the season

MADISON, Wis. — Tough night at LaBahn Friday as the No. 14 Badgers (2-2-0, 2-2-0-1 Big Ten) battled hard for 64 minutes and 33 seconds against the No. 6 Wolverines (4-0-0, 1-0-1-0 Big Ten) to come up short 2-1 in their first 3v3 overtime of the season.

After a scoreless first, junior Roman Ahcan notched his first goal of the season just two minutes into the second on a perfect power-play pass by senior Tarek Baker giving the Badgers four first goals in four games.

Wisconsin held fast to its lead in the second until Michigan knocked one in with six minutes to go to tie the game at 1-1.

It was a back-and-forth third period for both teams before a single five minute 3v3 overtime where the Wolverines scored with 26.6 seconds left for the overtime victory.

UW netminder Robbie Beydoun stopped 34 of 36 shots.

Notes to know:
  • Sophomore Cole Caufield posted his fourth assist of the season giving him one in each game of UW's four games
  • Senior Tarek Baker has his third consecutive game with an assist
  • Senior Linus Weissbach skated in his 100th career game as a Badger
  • Wisconsin's power play is 4-14 (28.6) scoring a power-play marker for the fourth consecutive contest.
