MADISON, Wis. — Winners of 11 straight dating back to last season, No. 4 Wisconsin travels to Milwaukee on Friday to take on Marquette and renew one of the greatest rivalries in college basketball. UW and MU have played 126 times, beginning in 1917.
The Badgers rose three spots to No. 4 in the AP Top 25. This marks UW's highest ranking since being ranked No. 3 on March 16, 2015. It's also just the fourth season in which Wisconsin has appeared in the AP Top 5.
THE STARTING FIVE
1) LET'S GO STREAKING:Â Wisconsin's 11-game win streak is tied for the 6th-longest win streak in the nation and is the longest among major conference teams.
2) ON THE WAY UP:Â After beginning the season 2-0, Wisconsin moved up to No. 4 in this week's AP Top 25. This marks UW's highest ranking since being ranked No. 3 on March 16, 2015. This is just the fourth season in which Wisconsin has appeared in the AP Top 5.
Wisconsin is one of six teams from the Big Ten ranked, and one of four ranked among the top 10: #3 Iowa,
#4 Wisconsin, #5 Illinois, #8 Michigan State, #23 Ohio State and #24 Rutgers.
3) WHAT'S TRENDING:Â Wisconsin's dominant 3-0 start has revealed a few early statistical trends:
- Eight different Badgers are averaging between 6 and 15 ppg, including 7 of those scoring in double digits this season
- UW is shooting 41.9% from 3-point range, with 10 different players hitting at least 1 from long range
- UW is shooting 75.8% at the free throw line
- UW is averaging just 8.0 turnovers per game
- Opponents are shooting just 32.4% overall
4)Â THE GANG'S ALL HERE:Â The Badgers return their entire starting 5 from the final game of last season and bring back 7 of the top 8 scorers overall from a season ago. UW returns 77.5% of its minutes from last season as well as 78.7% of points, 83.6% of rebounds, 86.1% of assists, 79.7% of steals and 88.6% of blocks.
5) PRESEASON PRAISE:Â Wisconsin has a trio of players on watch lists for major awards: PG D'Mitrik Trice (Bob Cousy Award), PF Nate Reuvers (Karl Malone Award) and C Micah Potter (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar).
