Badgers defeat Green Bay, 5-2, and sweep IUPUI, 7-0

MADISON, Wis. – After suffering its first setback of the 2020 campaign, the Wisconsin men's tennis team bounced back and conquered Green Bay and IUPUI on Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Badgers (7-1) won 5-2 over Green Bay and swept IUPUI, 7-0.

The Badgers began play against their in-state rivals by claiming the doubles point. The Wisconsin duo of Chase Colton and Jared Pratt got the 6-4 win over Green Bay's George Botha and Dipin Wadhwa to clinch doubles play, following Lenard Soha and Jesper Freimuth's 6-1 defeat over Teddy Razafindratsima and Kentaro Mizushima.

Moving into singles play, Martim Vilela played his first singles match of the spring season, which resulted in a 7-6, 6-2 win over Teddy Razafindratsima to clinch the fourth point for the Badgers. Gabriel Huber, Chase Colton, and Robert Krill were able to earn wins over their opponents without dropping a set.

In doubles action against IUPUI, Colton and Pratt claim the doubles point once again, defeating Nicholas Moody and Alex Jochim, 6-2. Soha and Freimuth earned their second doubles win of the day in a clean sweep over Reed Plunkett and Michael Koch, 6-0.

The Badgers dominated in singles play, starting off with Daniel Nuzhny recording the second point with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over his opponent, Reed Plunket. Shortly after, Robin Parts defeated his opponent in two straight sets for the third point. Rob Krill was able to clinch the fourth point for Wisconsin, conquering Michael Koch, 6-1, 6-2. Gabriel Huber, Lenard Soha, and Chase Colton also put up wins with two straight set victories.

UP NEXT: The next in-state battle for UW awaits on Thursday, February 6th at 5:30 p.m. when the Badgers take on Marquette at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
