Drake returns to Badgers’ roster

Senior forward will rejoin UW for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey head coach Mark Johnson announced on Friday that Delaney Drake will rejoin the Badgers hockey team for the 2021-22 season.

A native of Traverse City, Michigan, Drake has one year of eligibility remaining for Wisconsin after appearing in 136 games from 2017-21. She enjoyed her best year with the Cardinal and White during the 2019-20 season, posting four goals and 11 assists before COVID-19 wiped out the end of the Badgers' season.

"It's a luxury that she was still in school and in a position to have another year of eligibility," UW head coach Mark Johnson said. "With a couple of injuries we sustained against St. Cloud State, we started the process to add her to our roster. She's obviously familiar with us, has played the last four years here, that's the luxury that she can come right in and understand our systems. It might take her some time to get into game shape, but at some point she will get there and we will be able to utilize her."

The forward helped UW win both the 2019 and 2021 NCAA Championships and also was a part of three WCHA regular-season titles and two WCHA tournament titles during her time with UW.

"It's always an honor to play for this program," Drake said. "It's great to be home."

The top-ranked Badgers welcome No. 2 Ohio State to LaBahn Arena this weekend. Puck drop on Saturday is at 2 p.m. while Sunday's 3 p.m. contest can be seen live on the Big Ten Network. A limited amount of tickets still remain for the marquee series in Madison.
