McConnell earns second-team all-region honors

Freshman defender started every game for UW this season

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's soccer freshman Aidan McConnell earned another honor on Tuesday as the defender was named second-team All-North Region by the United Soccer Coaches.

It marks the third honor that the Dexter, Michigan, native has earned during her rookie season in Madison as she was also named third-team All-Big Ten and was selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team earlier this season.

McConnell started all 22 games for the Cardinal and White and played 2,104 out of a possible 2,138 minutes this season. She led a UW defense that had 10 shutouts and allowed an average of 0.77 goals per game, which ranked fifth in the league.

McConnell is the second UW defender to earn all-region honors in the last three years as Cam Biegalski earned first-team accolades following the 2019 season. McConnell is also one of only two Big Ten freshmen to earn all-region honors.
