Badgers drop puck on final home stand of the season
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 5 Wisconsin men's hockey team (14-8-0, 12-6-0-0-1-0 BIg Ten) drops the puck on their final homestand of the season with a series against Notre Dame (10-11-1, 8-9-1-1-2-1 Big Ten) this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20.
Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:
1 - TOP FIVE: The Badgers moved up one spot in the national rankings after they split their series with Michigan, dropping game one 5-1, then bouncing back to claim game two, 3-2. They're currently ranked fifth in the country and second in the Big Ten conference behind Minnesota. Wisconsin's national ranking is their highest since Oct. 21, 2019, where they came in at sixth.
2 - NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Wisconsin begins its final four-game home stretch of the season this week against Notre Dame. The Badgers are 7-5-0 when playing at home this season and 7-3-0 while on the road. Their series against Notre Dame is their second-to-last home series of the season. Notre Dame boasts one of the best road records in the nation at 7-1-0, including sweeps at top teams Michigan and Minnesota. It fares significantly better than when playing at home, where they're 3-10-1.
3 - 99 POINTS: Senior forward Linus Weissbach is one point away from 100 career points as a Badger. His eight goals, 18 assists, and 26 points this season rank fourth in the country and earned him a Hobey Baker fan-vote nomination.
4 - 14 WINS: The Badgers have strung together 14 wins in 22 games played so far this season, already matching their total number of wins earned in each of the last three seasons with six regular-season games left to play and a shortened schedule.
5 - SCOUTING NOTRE DAME: The Fighting Irish were kept scoreless through both their games last weekend against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. However, they demonstrated their scoring power a week prior against Ohio State when they outscored OSU 6-1 and 8-1. Forward Alex Steeves currently leads the team with 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points. The last time they faced the Badgers back in November, Colin Theisen recorded a hat trick.
6 - HOW TO WATCH: Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m on Saturday. Watch live on Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus on Friday and Fox Sports Wisconsin on Saturday, or follow along on Twitter and Instagram at @BadgerMHockey and with live stats on UWBadgers.com.
