Here are five more things to know before the Badgers step on the mats:
1. Keep an Eye Out: Six of the Badgers' 10 wrestlers competing this weekend earned top-10 seedings in their respective weight classes, led by redshirt senior Chris Weiler, at No. 2 seed at 184 pounds. A graduate transfer from Lehigh, Weiler is ranked eighth in the nation and will be looking not only to qualify again for the NCAA Championships, but earn his first All-America career honor.
At 285 pounds, redshirt junior Trent Hillger is seeded sixth and brings the Badgers' most veteran experience in post-season competition. He's finished fourth in the last two B1G Championships, earning trips to NCAAs and is a two-time All-American. Hillger's notable win this season is his pin of Ohio State's Tate Orndorff in 6:39. At 125 pounds, sophomore Eric Barnett's a man on the rise. He's seeded No. 6 in his weight class despite having defeated higher-seeded Patrick McKee (Minnesota, 4th seed) in a memorable 17-4 major decision upset. Barnett will be looking to earn his first-ever trip to NCAAs this season after finishing 10th last year in his first Big Ten Championships appearance.
At 174 pounds, redshirt sophomore Jared Krattiger is seeded 8th and returns for his second B1G Championship. He finished ninth in 2020, just shy of earning his first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Krattiger earned a gritty 5-2 upset victory against Minnesota's Jake Allar in February.
At 157 pounds,
Garrett Model is making his third trip to the B1G Championship after finishing 8th in 2020 and competing in 2019. The Stoughton, Wis., native will be looking to earn his first-ever trip to NCAAs and is seeded eighth. Model's notable match this season is his pin of Nebraska's Caleb Licking in 4:26.
At 133 pounds, redshirt freshman Kyle Burwick has been earning steady time as a starter this season. He's seeded No. 10 in his weight class and will be making his first B1G Championship appearance.
At 149 pounds, redshirt sophomore Drew Scharenbrock's proved to be a hard-nosed grappler. He's seeded 12th in his weight class, but don't sleep on this Badger to climb higher.
