Wisconsin takes on national-level competition in second race of season
MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 15 Wisconsin women's openweight rowing team will compete in the Big Ten Invitational this Saturday and Sunday in Cincinnati. Here are five things you need to know before tuning in.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers last competed in the Cardinal Invitational on March 13 and 14. Ten Badgers made their collegiate debuts and the teams finished with great opening weekend times. Now, with room to grow and Wisconsin taking about a month between races, the new-found experience will look to propel the Badgers even farther this weekend.
2. WEEKEND TIMELINE: The Badgers are set to row both Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. CT, respectively. Set to race on Harsha Lake at the East Fork State Park in Clermont County, Ohio, the invitational marks the second weekend of rowing for the Wisconsin rowing team.
3. B1G COMPETITION: Sixteen collegiate teams, including 13 ranked schools, will compete in the Big Ten Invitational. Those taking part include seven ranked Big Ten schools -- No. 12 Indiana, No. 16 Iowa, No. 6 Michigan, No. 17 Minnesota, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 11 Rutgers and the Badgers -- as well as Michigan State. The remaining teams competing span multiple conference and will bring great outside competition for the Badgers. These team include No. 7 Alabama, No. 10 Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame, No. 20 Syracuse, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 4 Virginia and No. 18 Washington State.
