MADISON, Wis. – Former Wisconsin women's rower Sophia Vitas is among 10 athletes who are taking part in USRowing's women's quadruple sculls selection camp. Team USA's entry in the event will be chosen from the camp for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games.
Vitas, a Franklin native, recently wrapped up competition at the second U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Trials, where her double sculls crew reached the finals after winning one of the two semifinals, then finished fourth in the final. The winning crew captured an Olympic spot in the event.
The camp is taking place in Princeton, New Jersey.
Two other former Wisconsin women's rowers, Vicky Opitz and Madde Wanamaker, were previously invited to the women's sweep selection camp for the eight and four. Opitz was an alternate for Team USA at the 2016 games in Brazil.
The entire U.S. Olympic Rowing Team will be selected by June 6.
The 2020 Olympic Summer Games are currently slated to run July 23 through August 8, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
