BOSTON -- The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team added another duel in their schedule today when they raced against Boston University Saturday and left the Charles River with a split in results.
Although it was a windy day in Boston, the Wisconsin varsity eight outraced the Terriers by just two seconds in a competitive fight to the finish line.
Boston University answered with a win of its own in the varsity four, taking the first place finish.

Head Coach Dusty Mattison
"First off a big thank you to BU lightweights for hosting us. There is a different feeling on race day when you are lining up against your direct competition. So we greatly appreciated the opportunity to get this race on the schedule. The race conditions held, but were definitely challenging. The cross headwind created some chop, but it was the gusts that made the rowers have to focus in on each other.
"The V8 had a great race. They handled the conditions really well. They were even with BU off the start then BU took a move and got up a few seats. What I'm most proud of is how composed the crew remained when BU moved. They didn't let it break their rhythm and used it to propel them out ahead after BU stopped moving. There is still speed to be found, but they were really happy with how they executed the race compared to last weekend.
"The V4 caught a crab during the start which meant they didn't get their rhythm until after BU had moved ahead. They were able to keep the same margin for much of the race which means we have good base speed. Now it's about continuing to gain confidence in different conditions and learning from this experience. Overall we are happy we had the trip out to Boston to get in this last race before IRAs."
