TOKYO – Racing in the women's four, former Wisconsin rower Maddie Wanamaker made her Olympic debut in the opening weekend of the 2020 Olympic Summer games.
First racing on the morning of Saturday, June 24 in Tokyo (Friday evening in Wisconsin), Wanamaker sat in the bow for Team USA's fourth-place finish in the second heat. With the top-two finishers advancing directly to the final, Wanamaker's crew placed fourth behind Australia, Ireland and Romania.
The crew then readied themselves to race in Sunday morning's repechage (Saturday night in Wisconsin) with a second chance at the final. The race was moved up due to weather conditions. With the top-two finishers in the repechage reaching the final, the Neenah, Wisconsin, native and her crew took fifth. Great Britain and Poland earned the two spots, with Romania, Canada, USA and then Denmark headed to the B Final.
